Each one of our team values has an important meaning to every person who works at LeagueApps, and that’s why we spend time recognizing colleagues for upholding them. During our annual SPORTSDOG Awards Ceremony, we honor those who demonstrated the values during the previous year.
All members of the LeagueApps team are well aware how important these values are and that importance is instilled in each member from the minute they begin interviewing with the time. When you’re interviewed to join LeagueApps, you’re also being evaluated based on how you align with the team values. Are you a team player? Are you willing to learn a new skill to get the job done? Are you open and honest with your teammates? You get the point.
By instilling the importance of working with our company values in mind from day one (well, technically day zero), it makes it difficult to choose winners for each SPORTSDOG Award because everyone is good at upholding different values in their own ways.
The first value in the acronym SPORTSDOG is Sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is about running our company the same way we would play sports: in a fair, generous, value-driven, and honest way. Upholding that value throughout your time at LeagueApps is crucial, because it means you are always looking out for your teammates and you’re always thinking of the most fair way to go about a situation—whether that be a project, a meeting, or even a conflict.
For the 2021 SPORTSDOG awards, five members of the team were nominated for the Sportsmanship award, but ultimately it was awarded to one very special member of the LeagueApps team: Bharat Chopra.
Bharat has been at LeagueApps for two years and is on the product team. When asked to be described by his teammates, here’s a little bit of what they had to say:
“I always think of Bharat as a true gentleman. Always courteous, polite, and considerate,” says Kion Kasianenko, engineering colleague.
“[Bharat] always acts in a respectful way with a cheerful, optimistic approach to solving problems that will help our partners and achieve our mission,” says Rebecca Gross, vice president of product.
“[Bharat] always goes with the flow and is not afraid to take on any challenge,” says John Incampo, product colleague.
“I’ve been on the other side of many one-on-ones where even as I got frustrated if we didn’t get the result we wanted, Bharat stayed positive, professional, thoughtful, and a great teammate. I’m excited that Bharat is my teammate. I look at him and the way he exudes sportsmanship and it’s an inspiration for me to want to get better at this value,” says Brian Litvack, LeagueApps CEO.
The overwhelming consensus at LeagueApps is that Bharat is someone who brings his teammates together through his positive attitude, optimism, and consideration for others. Bharat is someone who others at LeagueApps look to for inspiration for better upholding company values.
Why Our Team Values Matter
Having annual SPORTSDog Awards—as well as weekly shoutouts that accompany a team value—allows us to hold ourselves accountable as members of the LeagueApps team and to continue to check whether or not we’re abiding by the company values each and every day we go to work. Stay tuned for our next SPORTSDOG Award spotlight: the winner of Passion.
